TVS Motor Company has officially announced plans to introduce its premium British motorcycle brand, Norton, in the Indian market later this year.
The confirmation came from Sudarshan Venu, Managing Director of TVS, who pointed to the benefits of the newly signed India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA). This agreement is expected to support businesses with strong UK connections, creating a favorable path for Norton’s arrival in India.
Norton’s current portfolio features models like the Commando 961, V4SV, and V4CR — all of which are anticipated to arrive as completely built units (CBUs). Although these premium offerings may see limited sales initially, TVS intends to use them to establish Norton’s presence and aspirational appeal in the country.
In addition, TVS and Norton are working together to develop a fresh lineup of smaller-capacity motorcycles, including models in the 300–400cc segment. These bikes, designed with emerging markets like India in mind, are expected to hit the roads over the next few years.
TVS recognizes that success in India’s premium motorcycle space won’t rely solely on selling high-end models. The company is adopting a long-term strategy — much like Bajaj has done with Triumph and KTM — by leveraging Norton’s storied heritage and eventually offering more accessible, mid-capacity motorcycles.
While this approach may require patience, TVS views it as a strategic investment aimed at sustainable growth and establishing a strong presence in India’s premium motorcycle segment.
