BMW Motorrad has officially introduced the R 12 G/S Scrambler in international markets, following recent teasers hinting at its arrival. This new model is essentially a scrambler-style motorcycle built upon the R 12 nineT platform, carrying forward the same engine and main frame as its sibling.

Key Specifications:
- Front and rear suspension travel of 200mm and 210mm, respectively
- Powered by the same engine and chassis as the R 12 nineT
- Rear wheel options include 17-inch and 18-inch setups
The R 12 G/S Scrambler is fitted with a 21-inch front wheel and a 17-inch rear wheel in its standard configuration, along with a raised suspension setup to enhance its off-road capabilities. Buyers can opt for the Enduro Package Pro, which swaps the rear wheel for an 18-inch unit and increases the seat height from 860mm to 875mm. An optional Rallye seat is also available, further raising the seat height to 890mm.
In terms of design updates, the R 12 G/S receives handguards and a cockpit fairing as standard equipment, giving it a rugged, purposeful look. The Enduro Package Pro also adds off-road-specific footpegs, a 20mm taller handlebar riser, and an additional Enduro Pro riding mode alongside the default Rain, Road, and Enduro modes.
The motorcycle’s minimalistic bodywork and tall stance are complemented by a fully adjustable USD front fork with 200mm of travel and a rear monoshock offering 210mm of travel. The bike weighs 229kg when fully fuelled, with a fuel tank capacity of 15.5 litres.
Visually, the R 12 G/S takes inspiration from BMW’s legendary R 80 G/S and bears more resemblance to the iconic HP2 Enduro than the modern R 1300 GS. It also features BMW’s signature Paralever swingarm, enhancing its off-road stance.
Braking hardware includes twin 310mm front discs with axially mounted Brembo calipers and a 265mm rear disc. The bike is equipped with a comprehensive suite of electronic aids, such as cornering ABS (with switchable functionality), traction control, engine braking control, keyless ignition, and an LED headlight with an optional adaptive lighting system.
Powering the R 12 G/S is a 1,170cc, air/oil-cooled, boxer twin-cylinder engine that delivers 109hp at 7,000rpm and 115Nm of torque at 6,500rpm — identical to the output figures of the R 12 nineT. Internationally, it is offered in a single variant with three colour options.
BMW Motorrad has yet to announce when the R 12 G/S will arrive in the Indian market and reveal its pricing details.
